Electrical Work

The existing electric was terrible. The insulation was falling off the wires on the outside of the house exposing the bare conductors. We tried to stay away from it, but it was hard, especially trying not to get electrocuted with a metal tape measure.

The old panel was made by Zinsco and installed around 1950. What a piece of crap. The breakers were falling apart, they didn't trip, and the company went out of business 20 years ago so replacements were impossible to get.

To replace the service, I showed Nick Miceli and his father, Nick, the work that had to be done. I bought the panel boards and supplies to do the job and scheduled a Saturday to get it done. Friday May 12th I prepared all day. The panel back board  had to be cut and painted black, the outside wall needed to be finished around the meter pan, and I had to get a few last minute things at Home Depot.

The Micelis arrived at 7:00 am, bright and early. The first order was to cut the existing wires at the weatherhead so the old equipment could be removed. Elaine was initially upset because she would not be able to do any thing during this time. No laundry, TV or music without electric. It was too early to visit her mother. The problem was solved when she decided to sleep through the early work.

The installation went well and the Micelis were on their way by 2:00 pm. I finished the work on the sub-panel that was also replaced.
