2nd Floor trimming
Garage, shed, and the 2nd Floor.
It was time that I hunkered down and cranked out some work.
I started out trimming on an easy job, the garage. The trim was painted, so if I messed up, the imperfections could be filled with caulk and painted over. I used the same trim profiles as I would be doing in the 2nd floor except that upstairs all the trim would be stained natural and coated with polyurethane.
The baseboards were made with 1"x 4" stock. The best deal was to buy it pre-primed, ready for installation. The door trim was 1 x 3, but was not available pre-primed. #2 pine was the closest that I could get however I would have to machine sand each piece and then prime them. The stained trim was made from 1 x 4, and 1 x 3 clear pine and would require three passes sanding, two coats of stain, and one coat of polyurethane before installation. I did not know it at the time, but it would take about 1 man-hour to prepare each stained piece of baseboard and trim, 14 to 16 foot long. The trimming job ahead would involve over 40 man-hours of my time to do this preparation. The window and door jambs, and the doors would also need similar preparation as well. The doors were coated at least 4 times with polyurethane.
