Slab Pour

Friday was the pour day, we had 9 guys working- 4 finishers, and 5 helpers.

Initially I thought that the inch of snow the night before would not affect us bur again I was wrong. We swept off the ramp, but snow tracked on to it by the wheelbarrow and feet made it slippery. Wheelbarrow trips could carry less and we had to nail slats onto the planks for traction.

Weldon brought 3500 Psi concrete mix with fibers, 3/8" pea gravel, and plastiser (so called- super P) The super-P is supposed to provide a wet effect without weakening the concrete the way adding water would. When the truck got into position, ready to pour, the super-P was added. Normally this will take concrete with a 4 slump and make it into a 7 to 8  slump, but not this time. The slump after the super-P was barely a 5. I rejected early requests to add water, but after the first few wheelbarrows were inside it was obvious that it needed to be wetted down a bit. The driver added water to increase the slump to a 6 to 7 which was acceptable.

The concrete was flattened with a screed board.

After it set up it was hand finished
