To the Gulf Stream

It was a difficult start, many spectator boats were out on the course and in our way.

Winds were 17 to 19 knots and the seas were choppy. It was a tough night, but we managed to keep the boat on course to the entry point to the stream.

We then entered at the waypoint planned and rode the stream southeast toward Bermuda for 150 miles. Wind varied down the course resulting in us changing sails and altering course to compensate.

The Finish

We positioned ourselves on the west side of the rhumb line in preparation for the southwest winds on the final approach. When the winds became favorable we converted our western position to boat speed by flying the 1.5 oz. spinnaker. As we approached Bermuda we came hard on the wind and then had a short beat to the finish near St. David's Light.

We won First in our division of 19 boats, and 5th overall out of 180
